Join our patient-centered healthcare team as a Medical Assistant with Well&You RuralReach and play a critical role in bringing chronic disease management, vascular and limb-salvage care, cardiac monitoring, women’s health, and non-opioid pain care to residents of rural Baker and Nassau counties who currently drive 35 to 40 miles for specialty care. Medical Assistants are the clinical backbone of our rural sites, supporting providers through both clinical and administrative work — preparing patients, assisting with procedures, managing records, and keeping the day moving — often as the only clinical support staff on site.

At rural and satellite sites, the Medical Assistant is frequently the only clinical support staff present — which means this role requires and rewards an experienced Medical Assistant with a broad clinical foundation across vein, cardiovascular, and pain service lines, the judgment to resolve day-of problems, and the initiative to anticipate what a remote site will need before it needs it.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.
• Maintain stocks of medical supplies as necessary in the exam rooms.
• Educate and advise patients on medical issues within established parameters.
• Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
• Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.
• Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information.
• Perform instrument cleaning and autoclave cleaning.
• Update medical history.
• Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.
• Scribe and enter orders for providers while in the room with patients.
• Assist the supervisor as unusual problems arise.
• Room patients by taking vitals.
• Perform suture and staple removal, and wound care.
• Take compression stockings measurements.
• Prep charts and gather medical records for upcoming patient visits.
• Serve as the primary clinical support at rural satellite clinic sites, independently managing room turnover, patient flow, instrument processing, and provider support with limited or no on-site backup.
• Travel to assigned rural clinic locations and community outreach and screening events; transport, set up, stock, and break down supplies and equipment.
• Anticipate and resolve day-of issues at remote sites — supply gaps, equipment failures, schedule holes, add-on patients, missing records — escalating only what genuinely requires a provider or manager.
• Own inventory and par levels for assigned rural sites, ordering far enough ahead that a supply shortage never cancels a patient’s visit.
• Support telehealth and remote provider encounters at rural sites: prepare the patient, establish the connection, present clinical data, and complete resulting orders accurately.
• Prepare rural patients traveling long distances for same-trip care by confirming records, imaging, medications, and pre-visit requirements in advance.
• Identify patients facing transportation, coverage, caregiver, or access barriers and connect them to patient navigation and community resources.
• Capture complete and accurate demographic, screening, and outcome data required for rural health grant reporting.
• Cross-cover front-office functions at small rural sites where roles overlap, including check-in, scheduling, and medical records requests.

• Broad clinical knowledge foundation spanning multiple specialty service lines, including vein, cardiovascular, and pain management.
• Self-starting and resourceful; comfortable operating with fewer resources than a large facility provides and finding a safe, compliant path forward.
• Comfort with a variable daily assignment, wide scope, and frequent changes in location and provider.
• Cultural competence and ease with rural patient populations, including patients with limited health literacy, long-standing gaps in care, or distrust of the healthcare system.
• Working proficiency with telehealth workflows and remote EHR documentation over variable connectivity.
• Willingness and ability to travel to rural clinic sites and outreach events on a regular basis.

Education and Experience

• 3+ years of hands-on Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting; multi-specialty or procedural experience strongly preferred.
• Medical Assistant certificate or diploma preferred; current BLS certification preferred.
• Experience in a rural clinic, satellite or mobile site, FQHC, rural health clinic, or critical access setting strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated history of working independently with minimal on-site supervision.
• Valid Florida driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to rural sites and outreach events.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Regular travel between the Jacksonville area and rural clinic sites, including some early start times and occasional evening or weekend outreach events.
• Must be able to load, transport, and set up portable equipment, supplies, and event materials for offsite clinics and community screening events.
• Must be able to work productively in smaller rural facilities and temporary event spaces with limited support staff on site.
